7.30pm: Camille De Dieu – Opression
Performance audiovisuelle – mapping video

9pm: Uiutna & Steaknet – All Ice and Berries v.2
This audiovisual performance is a collaboration between Steaknet, for the concept and images, and Uiutna for music. A mix of improvised video clip, 8-bit and electronic imagery concert. Completely crazy designs revolve around the adventures of a snowman who goes into town where he hopes to find a cold beer to quench his thirst. But life in this city is rotating around a sacred drink, the Sticky Milkshake. Any resemblance to the real world are purely coincidence!

10.30pm: HERMAN KOLGEN – DUST

Inspired by 1920 Marcel Duchamp + Man Ray’s photograph “elevate de poussière“, dust explores changes in the state of matter. At the edge of the imperceptible, pigments are suspended around a magnetic field. Random fibrous networks take shape and then form composite objects, hypnotic in their complexity.  Sound particles paired with luminous aggregates exist on a scale that cancels out all points of reference.

Thus, at the turning point between the invisible and the visible, DUST becomes intoxicating and the video surface a veritable accumulation of X-rays.

MAPPING FESTIVAL: A major artistic experimentation platform.

The Mapping Festival VJ and Audiovisual Arts has once again succeeded in mobilizing a large audience for its 7th edition in Geneva.
The Mapping Festival 2011 was: 4 workshops, 5 lectures and presentations, 5 venues and over 150 artists. Programming put forward the two sides of the Festival, initiated on the first edition in 2005: one for professional meetings, a real laboratory, the other with multidisciplinary discoveries for the general public.

With dance and audiovisual concerts, the Mapping Festival focussed this year on performances. More than twenty of them have taken place in various venues such as the Contemporary Art Building, Fonderie Kugler, Spoutnik Cinema, Zoo/Usine and Palladium, which has replaced the impromptu loss of the Galpon Theater. But also the VJ contest, art openings and improvised street mappings.

CENC – Disorder

Among the highlights this year: Supermafia and there Inflatable Dancefloor in 30 minutes, the London-based prodigy Zan Lyons, his violin and loop-station; the analyze of the cinematographic genre by People Like Us, the dance and video/visuals performance by Recoil Performance Group and Cagoule, as well as the majestic generative dance/video performance by the collective CENC have demonstrated the possibilities offered by the mix of genres. So many other artists have managed to captivate Mapping Festival’s staff and audience. Also, there was the VJ contest that elected Kobored as our best VJ. He came from Thailand for this only occasion.
Or the workshop MadMapper which by its mere announcement has attracted fans from around the world, including Japan and Liban. Evidence yet of the international dimension of the festival.

Zoo/Usine was sold out every night, combining visual lectures and percussive rhythms, bringing together some of the best DJs and labels in the world (including Boysnoize or Coco Machete Records) and most prominent VJ’s. And of course, visual installations that have revisited the venue of Zoo / Usine, as well as the Fonderie Kugler. All to give the Mapping Festival appearance a unique color, differentiating it from other multidisciplinary events.

But above all, exhibition at the BAC, with its eight installations, was probably one of our greatest successes with over 600 people at the opening during the Nuit des Bains. Innovative, aesthetic, and surprising, each installation has delighted visitors, both amateurs and scholars of the genre.

Camille Scherrer

More than 150 artists responded to the call: many artistic visions from all backgrounds. More than a festival it is a platform for exchange, encounters and discoveries. With unique conferences, including a special visit from AV:lab, the offline educational course, for the first time in Europe. Once again, Geneva has vibrated with the Mapping Festival through the multiple variants of Art. In a word, from 19 to 29 May, the visual arts have opened their arms and are waiting to be received again from May 2012.

The Mapping Festival thanks the Head for their successful partnership, their workshop Body Double, the lecture From Hal to Kinect and the installation of City Media Project at the BAC. Special thanks also to the public, and many faithful partners, the whole team and our 90 volunteers. The organization of the 2012 edition is now expected in an ever-growing enthusiasm.

Interview with: Drawvolution

The Austrian collective will be VJing, for the second year in a role, at the Zoo with Fukkk Offf, tonight May 28. Impressions:

What’s the Mapping festival for you?

Momo 1030: We know the Mapping Festival as one of the most exciting Festival for VJ culture. For us it’s a perfect time to be creative for some days, meet friends, get to know other artists and their techniques.

Raveael: And most of all, taking over the City!

In a few words, what are you going to present here?

Momo 1030: This year we gonna present our ipot-Performance officially. We gonna visualize the Party, on Stage, including the Crowd and the Dj by using cracked ipot-touch devices, UV Paint and Cameras. Our Performance is like Real life: unpredictable and full of surprises. One, two, three, Action!

Raveael: Geneva, get ready for some nasty Neonmess!

Any highlight/crush in our 2011 program?

Raveael: Definitely the release of Mad Mapper. 3DMapping is going big and for sure one of the most important inventions in VJing in the last few years. A must for big Electronic Festivals, and i’m really looking forward to test the Software with some Mapping Installations @ Beatpatrol Festival & UAF Festival in Austria.

Momo 1030: Also looking forward to listen to some av:lab Speakers. EVA is big, onedotzero is classic and shantell martin i always wanted to talk to.
