AV:lab is an offline educational course on new media and audiovisual arts initiated by Force Media Swiss AG, a leading Russian audiovisual arts group and creative community, also responsible for projects such as Cyberbrothers and Russian Visual Artists (RVA).
Originating from its widely successful online course AV:in which gained the attention of over 4000 users in under 6 months, AV:lab was first seen at Yota Space festival in St Petersburg, December 2010 where a host of leading international groups such as Coldcut, Resolume, Arkaos, and Green Hippo gave classes and presentations on subjects relating to audiovisual art and culture. AV:lab is coming to Europe for the first time at Mapping and has several locations planned for 2011 in an effort to spread its popular course structure and lecture program with a variety of information and presentations on AV Art History, Content Creation, Software, Hardware, Protips and Career Outcomes. The unique program for Mapping includes presentations and talks with visual entities UVA, onedotzero and lightrhythm visuals, explaining their success stories and how it has been possible to develop an industry and careers around visual arts. This is followed up with themed talks by, RVA, Shantell Martin, Olga Mink and Benge who are talking on their respective subjects of video mapping for theatre, live illustration, curating visual arts and the history of synthesizers. More about AV:in The online course originally developed by Forcemedia delivers a unique insight to some of the most advanced technologies and solutions in audiovisual art and performance and provides students with comprehensive up-to-date skills, which are in high demand. Programmed and coordinated by Ben Sheppee, the 6 part course has exclusive interviews with most of the key figures in the industry who share their valuable advice
and tips for success in audiovisual arts. The online course has been prepared by university professors, online education specialists and presents users with a range of informative video lectures, which can be accessed for free by logging in via Facebook, Google Open ID, Twitter or Cyberbrothers. Users are encouraged to test their study through a unique questionnaire following each lesson and study charts and certification helps users to focus on goals through their study.

UVA
Established in 2003, United Visual Artists are an art and design practice based in London. UVA produce work at the intersection of sculpture, architecture, live performance, moving image and digital installation.

UVA's team members come from many disciplines including fine art, architecture, communication design, moving image, computer science and engineering. The cross-pollination of diverse skills inspires new fields of exploration, which is core to their ethos. Pushing the boundaries of research, software and engineering with every project, UVA's work aims above all to be meaningful and engaging.

UVA's work has been exhibited at institutions including the V&A, the Royal Academy of Art, the South Bank Centre, the Wellcome Collection, Opera North Leeds, Durham Cathedral and The British Library. Their artworks have also toured internationally to cities including Paris, New York, Los Angeles, Tokyo, Yamaguchi, Taipei, Hong Kong, Melbourne and Barcelona. UVA also have large scale permanent art works in Toronto and Istanbul.

onedotzero
onedotzero is a London-based moving image and digital arts organization which commissions, showcases and promotes innovation across all aspects of moving image, digital and interactive arts.
The organization, founded in 1996, is known for representing a diverse array of artistic endeavor via the annual onedotzero_adventures in motion festival and associated touring. It has a cross media and collaborative approach attuned to technological advances and fast paced change within digital arts and the contemporary culture landscape. This presentation goes into the history of the company and some realization about how onedotzero has adapted through time to stay one of the most current creative hubs internationally.

Russian Visual Artists (RVA)
Russian Visual Artists are a group of creatives from Moscow working with practicing visual and multimedia forms of expression. Russian Visual Artists is a company occupied with interdisciplinary projects in the sphere of new media. RVA projects are notable for their innovation, ingenious solutions and high technology. They use science and technology progress as a tool for producing creative projects.
Video mapping, tracking, installations, augmented reality, kinematic models, production of specialized software for controlling objects, music composing and many other skills are in their competence.
RVA projects belong to most different areas, from advertising and decorating of cultural events to art installations and theatrical performances.

lightrhythm visuals
lightrhythm visuals is an audiovisual label curating and commissioning a strong selection of design conscious visuals across a diversity of mediums. Having published around 60 artists, lightrhythm coordinates a range of activities, producing contents for a variety of applications, organizing events, managing works and coordinating exhibitions for creative and commercial application.

In San Francisco 2003, the label was founded to release visual artworks by local artists who struggled to receive recognition from commercial film publishers and found a niche in the market exposing independent video creators. 8 years on the collective has launched 12 titles, held regular events and screening programs, and spread into diversity of digital mediums in an effort to showcase creators who have come from a background of VJing and Audiovisual performance.

Shantell Martin
London-born, Brooklyn-based artist Shantell Martin coined a unique style of illustration before passing through St Martins School of Art and accomplishing international recognition at a young age. Media conscious Martin has applied performed her drawing techniques onto buildings, cars, screens and bodies, besides the expected pages of her drawing books, which hold intricately detailed sketches of playful and bizarre worlds Exhibited extensively in Tokyo, London and across the United States, Shantell has funded part of her career by working with major brands and successfully balances commercial and gallery work, in recent times performing at the MOMA, Museum of Moving Image and BFI amongst a colourful backdrop of other club and live event environments.

Often keen to present at conferences she recently spoke at PSFK Conference New York 2010 and was profiled by CNN, which compliments her strong ability of promoting her brand of art successfully through social networking and online media. Shantell's presentation goes into detail on how its possible to make a career in the field of visual arts and brings some light to the ambiguous lifestyle of becoming a recognized artist.

Olga Mink
Olga Mink works as an artist, consultant and curator in media arts. Her artwork crosses boundaries between disciplines and she is commonly exploring the use of customized projection possibilities as an important part of her work. Collaborating with musicians internationally her work expands into audiovisual performances effortlessly. "The Nature of Being", a Live Cinema performance in collaboration with Scanner is a prime example of her digital expression with audiovisual work, which toured extensively through the US, Europe and continues to attract
audiences online.
Working as an artist and attending international media art festivals, Mink became interested in curating events. Organizing The State of the Image Festival in Holland lead to the founding of her affiliate company Visual Active. She has since curated two editions of Imageradio Festival, Plaza Futura, two editions of Plazaplus Festival, elements of Re:visie, and the program "Van Pixel tot Pluis". Her presentation focuses on attitudes towards curating, selecting artists that compliment and contract each other and using gallery and club spaces to make connections between artists and their works.

Benge
Ben Edwards a.k.a. Benge has been exploring the sonic possibilities of electronic instruments since a young age. Beginning a collection in the 1970s he has amassed a "museum" of synths, organs, percussion, recording equipment and instruments, some of them being unique and many of them being extremely rare items. In 1990 he began to set up a music studio and started recording his own blend of electronica, and formed the label of Expanding Records in 1995. Since then he has released Ten Albums - the last of which is entitled "20 Systems" which explores the sound range and qualities of 20 synths dating from 1968 - 1988. In this presentation through a body of research and consciously simple audio compositions the history of synthesizers is detailed, with references to their uses through
time and explanation of their success, which moved the music industry.

Dr. Antonio Geusa
Dr. Antonio Geusa holds a PhD in Media Arts (London University, UK), a BA in Foreign Literatures (University of Bari, Italy), and a BA in Media Arts (London University, UK). In the past few years he has been working as an independent curator and critic. He is a widely published author in Russia and abroad. In Russia, he is one of the leading figures in the field of art and new technologies. He is also the biggest expert of Russian video art in the world.

From 2005 Dr. Geusa is the curator of Art Digital, the biggest and most famous festival of digital arts in Russia and from 2007 of the project "History of Russian Video Art" for the Moscow MOMA.
